AS if the accident was not traumatising enough, an Umkomaas woman also had her dinged car ‘stolen’ last Friday by a tow truck driver who came to her ‘rescue’.
The woman (41) was travelling on the R102 near the Cutty Sark Hotel in Scottburgh when she was involved in a collision with another vehicle at about 5pm.
Police reported that the second driver – a 24-year-old man from Amandawe – did not have a valid driver’s licence.
“Sifiso Gumede was issued with a written notice to appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court, or to pay an admission of guilt fine of R2 000 for driving a motor vehicle without a licence,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.
Meanwhile, the woman (who did not want to be named) was being badgered by a tow truck driver at the accident site.
She tried to insist that her insurance company was dispatching an accredited tow truck. However, she also had to get her vehicle out of the way so she came to an agreement with the tow trucker to take her car to the Cutty Sark… free of charge.
To her surprise, the trucker drove off in the other direction with her car.
She alerted her vehicle tracking service and they later traced the vehicle to an address in Umzinto.
