The motive is unknown at this stage and no arrests have been made.

MARGATE police are searching for a 22-year-old man who is thought to have stabbed his brother in Margate last Saturday.

According to police reports, Wandile Nompuko (19) from Bizana and his brother were walking in Uplands Road when a fight broke out. “Wandile was stabbed in the chest by his brother,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.

He was taken to Port Shepstone Regional Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

The motive is unknown at this stage and no arrests have been made.

Captain Mfeka added that police have stepped up policing in Margate and surrounding areas.

“All office-bound policemen and women have started crime prevention. They will be visible on the beaches and in town.”

He cautioned the public that there will be no drinking allowed on the beach and at the roadsides in the Margate policing area.

“Those who fail to comply will be arrested,” he warned.

He added that Margate police together with Law Enforcement officers will be patrolling the streets in Margate policing area throughout the day and night.

“A strong unit of police officers on horseback will be deployed soon. These men and women will be patrolling the beaches and other South Coast areas this festive period,” he said.

The police mounted unit from Pietermaritzburg has been deployed on the coast over the festive period in previous years.
