Stolen vehicle recovered in Gamalakhe
Excellent teamwork by the police and a tracking company resulted in the arrest of two men and the seizure of an unlicensed firearm.
POLICE assisted a tracking company in tracing a stolen vehicle recently.
The vehicle was reported as having been stolen during a house robbery in the Umzimkhulu area.
“A woman (32) was at her home in New Clydesdale in Umzimkhulu, when suspects forced their way in. They were armed with a firearm and a screwdriver and instructed her to unlock her vehicle,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
The woman was struck on the forehead with the butt of the gun before the men fled in her vehicle.
The assailants also took bank cards and cellphones.
The tracking company was informed about the stolen vehicle and requested assistance from the police.
Officers from Port Shepstone and Gamalakhe responded. The stolen vehicle was found in Gamalakhe and two men were arrested.
An unlicensed firearm, from which the number had been filed off, was recovered.
The men are due to appear in court soon.
