Off duty cop makes arrests
Three men have been arrested in Shelly Beach in connection with house breakings.
AN off-duty policeman, Warrant Officer Sydney Seaton from Port Shepstone SAPS, did not hesitate to answer to the call of duty when he was requested to do so.
W/O Seaton was enjoying some much-needed free time when he received a call recently about two men who were seen jumping over the wall of a premises in Jackson Street, Shelly Beach. A description was given to W/O Seaton.
“Without thinking twice he rushed to the address and was just in time to see the men about to get into a blue car, probably the getaway vehicle,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
W/O Seaton arrested all three and found two knives and cellphones in the vehicle.
At the same time two cases of attempted burglary in the area were reported to police.
In one case a 30-year-old woman was at home when she heard a noise. When she investigated, she found two men (the suspects) shaking the sliding door. When she called her husband, they ran away.
In the other case a 44-year-old woman received a report of two men who had been seen on the roof of her home. “When police responded, the two suspects jumped off the roof and fled,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
The three suspects aged 19, 20 and 40 are in custody and are due to appear in court soon.
