Outstanding results for Southcity

Southcity is proud of its matrics of 2016 who gave the school such wonderful results.

AFTER months of hard work, sheer determination and many sacrifices by pupils there was huge relief as the Independent Examination Board’s (IEB) matric results were released on Friday last week and Southcity Christian College has done it once again!

Not only does the school have an average of 1.22 distinctions per person and a 100 percent pass rate, but every pupil who passed the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examination, also achieved tertiary study entry pass rates.

A breakdown of the pass rate reveals that 72.73 percent achieved Bachelor degree passes, 22.73 percent achieved Diploma passes and 4.55% achieved entry for study at the Higher Certificate level. The college has once again maintained its status as one of the top academic schools on the South Coast having obtained 54 A’s and 71 B’s in total.

Seven students achieved outstanding results, Jake Bailey Sloan (six As and two Bs), head girl Amy Henson (six A’s and one B), Jonathan Francesconi (five As and three Bs),

Cwenga Mgwebi (four As and three Bs), deputy head boy Graeme Bester (three A’s and four B’s), Michaela Tommasini (three As and three Bs) and head boy Stephan Smit (two As and three Bs).

Three students made it to the top one percent in the country, Amy Henson and Candyce Kloppers for Mathematical Literacy and Jake Bailey Sloan for Geography. Special congratulations must also go to the Life Orientation and Mathematic Literacy Departments for obtaining 15 distinctions each.

Wendy Lourens, principal of Southcity Christian College said that the wonderful statistics for year end 2016 is a testimony of the expertise and dedication of the school’s exceptional teaching staff as well as the hard work and commitment of the pupils. “The excellent results are not only attributed to the hard work by teachers and pupils over many years, but also from the exceptional support received from parents,” said Mrs Lourens. She wished all matriculants the very best as they embark on exciting and new endeavours in 2017.
