Numbers add up for Sadiyah as Sheppie High gets ‘full marks’

Port Shepstone High School has again produced the goods.

SADIYAH Wahab (18) of Port Shepstone High School finished in the top five in the Ugu district.

The matric results were released yesterday and Sadiyah celebrated the news with her family while on holiday in Limpopo.

The Shelly Beach teen was surprised with her success. “I was hoping for maybe a top 10,” she said.

She scored As for English, Afrikaans, Maths, Life Orientation, Life Sciences, Physical Science and Accounting.

Ironically she wasn’t dux at Sheppie High with that honour going to head girl Lente Venter.

Sadiyah thanked her family for their support – parents Shabeer and Nadia and younger sister.

“They encouraged me when I needed it, especially when I got tired. But at the end of the day I realised it was up to me and that I had to push through,” she said.

She wasn’t all about studies though and spent some of her down-time taking part in athletics.

“Just for fitness,” she laughed. “I didn’t take part in any competitions.”

She also volunteered for Red Cross, was part of STACA (Sheppie Teens Against Cancer and Aids), and also helped with maths mentoring and reading groups.

To de-stress during exam time, she listened to music, watched TV and slept… a lot!

Interestingly, she is neither a night owl nor an early bird. “I only study during the day, in bed by 8pm,” she laughed.

She is now looking forward to studying a Bachelor of Accounting and Sciences at Stellenbosch University.

There were many success stories.

Lente Venter and Shilpa Thomas scooped seven As, while Anele Nzama, Sumaya Habib and Asavela Mjonga cracked six As.

Lupo Futshane, Zamangema Sosibo and Zinziswa Ndolo obtained five As each.

The school’s top achiever, Sadiyah Wahab, finished in the top five in the Ugu region, a fantastic achievement.
