Port Shepstone Secondary’s brightest stars share their secrets
Port Shepstone Secondary pupils were placed in the top five in the Ugu District.
TWO of Port Shepstone Secondary’s pupils have been placed in the top five in the Ugu District and attended the prestigious KwaZulu-Natal Provincial NSC release of results ceremony held at the ICC in Durban yesterday, with the principal, Genganathan Odayar.
Shiven Chetty was placed second and Karosa Moodley took fourth position. Both pupils produced some amazing results. Shiven notched up 7As and a whopping overall aggregate of 91 percent.
Karosa also bagged 7As attaining a 90 percent aggregate. “It is finally over, the pressure, stress and anxiety is gone. Quite relieved that its all over and look forward to university,” said Shiven. Shiven was also thrilled when he received his confirmation that he has been accepted at Wits University to study actuarial science.
Actuarial science is a three-year degree in the discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in insurance, finance and other industries and professions. His advice for the matric class of 2017 is to relax, not to panic or stress. “Find something to enjoy and do that in moderation during exam time so to prevent excess stress and panic attacks and breakdowns. An important aim is always set goals and know what you want to achieve and do what makes you happy,” said Shiven.

Both pupils received laptops and book vouchers and had the opportunity to meet KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu, Mthandeni Dlungwane MEC for KZN Education and KZN Human Settlements and Public Works MEC Ravi Pillay.
Karosa hopes to study medicine and is awaiting confirmation from her universities of choice.
“The matric examinations were very challenging and I think I have made myself and my parents proud.” She also offered some advice for this years matriculants. “Be determined and self-motivated. Even if others have tried to motivate you, it has to come from within yourself,” she said.
Both pupils thanked their principal Mr Odayor, teachers and tutors and all their grade 12 teachers.
