A MURDER investigation, which started in 2013, ended in the Scottburgh Regional Court on Wednesday last week where Sibusiso Mga Shoza (33) was found guilty on two counts of rape and one of murder and handed two life sentences.
He committed the crimes in Port Shepstone and Hibberdene during 2013 and 2014.

A 17-year-old teenager was walking near the Merlewood grounds December 17 2013 when the Shoza attacked her, held her at knifepoint and dragged her into the bushes where he raped her.
And in May 2014, a 18-year old girl and her 27-year-old friend were walking in Woodgrange, Hibberdene, when they were approached by Shoza who asked for cigarettes. He was given cigarette, then suddenly hit the man and stabbed him. He managed to flee.
Shoza then grabbed the woman and raped her on the side of the road. The man’s body was later found on the side of the road. He had died from a stab wound to the chest.
Police soon realised that they were looking for the same suspect, and on June 2 2014 police went to a home in Mfazazane, Hibberdene where the man attacked the officers, trying to stab them with a dagger and throwing hot oil at them.

The police retaliated and fired a warning shot. Shoza was struck by a bullet, placed under arrest and taken to hospital.
He was last Wednesday sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for teh Hiberdene rape; life imprisonment for the Hibberdene murder; life imprisonment for the Port Shepstone rape and three years for the attack on the policemen.
Detective Vasu Govender from Port Shepstone was instrumental in investigating the case. The Cluster Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele was pleased with the harsh penalty given to the accused and thanked the investigating officer for the high standard of the investigation.
