POLICE are urgently searching for a little boy who went missing on Friday, May 26.
Sphumelelo Ncama (3) was last seen by his mother at around 1pm playing outside his home with other children near Nkomo’s Tuckshop in Louisiana, Port Shepstone.
He was wearing lime green checked shorts, lime green T-shirt, a brown and red striped jacket and blue shoes. “Investigation by police then led to the possibility that he had been seen in the presence of an adult man,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
“It was also established that this man is allegedly an inyanga (traditional healer) from the Eastern Cape. When local police travelled to the Bizana area last Sunday to look for him, they were informed that he had fled. A kidnapping docket was opened at Port Shepstone and is currently under investigation at Port Shepstone Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit,” she said.
Police are still trying to obtain a picture of the child as the family could not provide a photo.
They are in the process of compiling an identikit with the help of relatives. Anyone who witnessed the child in the company of this man is urged to contact the police immediately.
“It is a great cause for concern, especially when vulnerable children as well as women and the aged go missing or are victims of crimes. The police constantly need the assistance of the public in providing them with information on criminal activities to bring about arrests and convictions,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
