MERLEWOOD Primary was shocked and saddened by the tragic drowning of gr 2 pupil Simamkele Dzanibe last week. Simamkele was always polite, obliging and well-spoken, showed good leadership qualities and was class monitor.

He was a top achiever and enjoyed playing soccer. He was his teacher Reshica Naicker’s ‘right hand’ and would often carry her bag to the classroom. Simamkele will be sorely missed.
Senior Phase held a ‘youth empowerment day’ for grades 7 and 8 last week. Pupils were enthralled by guest speakers Duduzile Ndlovu (sister in charge at the Thuthuzela Care Centre), Pastor Craig Hargreaves and S’duduzo Ka Mbili, a well travelled, experienced motivational speaker with vast work experience in the arts.
Speakers were dynamic, encouraging and motivating pupils to make their dreams a reality through sheer hard work and dedication.
The school thanks all teachers who donated generously towards a meal for pupils, each of whom also received a sponsored cap.
