Celebrating a shared past and culture during Heritage Month
The South Coast is a wonderful melting pot of diverse cultures, traditions and beliefs.
WITH Heritage Day celebrated every year on September 24, it’s the perfect opportunity for everyone in the country to celebrate their cultural tradition.
On the local front, various local school pupils and traditional dancers performed in a Heritage celebration at the Uvongo Town Hall last Saturday.

One of the organisers, Thobile Madondo, said that the South Coast is a wonderful melting pot of diverse cultures, traditions and beliefs and this heritage event was a celebration of all of this.

“While Heritage Day is about coming together and celebrating a shared past and culture, it is also about ensuring that each culture and belief is recognised. With this in mind, many people want to celebrate their personal beliefs and traditions,” explained Ms Madondo.

She pointed out that some people choose to wear traditional dress and practise traditional dancing and song. “This function was a good time to get together as a family or as friends and look to the past to see how your personal heritage has shaped how you live today.”
