Earwax: 4 Steps to get the ‘cockroach’ out of your ear
Never stick anything sharp, or smaller than your elbow, in your ear.
Hopefully you’ve never had to go to the doctor to extract a cockroach from your ear.
That can happen but thankfully it is extremely rare.
But sometimes it feels like there is one stuck in there. And you need to sort it out fast.

Dr David Edelstein, writing for The Doctors Book of Home Remedies, says the most common problem is earwax that’s formed a hard little plug next to the eardrum that has to be removed by a doctor.
There are ways to prevent that from happening.
1. Stick nothing in your ear.
‘Never put anything smaller in your ear than your elbow’ is an old cliché that doctors swear by. You could tear the ear drum, or ram the wax further down.
2. Drop in a softening fluid.
A few drops of something like hydrogen peroxide, mineral oil or glycerine can help the wax to bubble away and soften it.
3. Blow-dry your ears.
Don’t rub your ears dry,
4. Make it a habit.
A once-a-month earwash is plenty for anyone. More than that and you could wash away the natural protective wax.
