Harding chief David Duma dies

The chief will be laid to rest at his homestead this Saturday, February 24.

The Ugu District has lost yet another chief, less than four months after the death of an Umzumbe chief.

Chief David van Rooyen Duma (66) from Harding, died last Thursday following a long illness.

KZN Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube expressed her heartfelt condolences to the Duma clan.

“His passing has left a void in the institution of traditional leadership within our province.”

The MEC said, the role ‘Amakhosi’ (chiefs) play as nation-builders, mediators and father figures in their communities is indispensable.

“As a department, we express our heartfelt condolences to the family and his community during this difficult time.”

The MEC added that Chief Duma would be remembered for always working hard and putting the interests of his community first.

The chief will be laid to rest at his homestead this Saturday, February 24.
