Fashion can make a difference – raising money for literacy through #vintagewithlove
Since its inception in 2013, Vintage with Love has raised close to R4-million for literacy, with sales of gently worn fashion in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The sixth Vintage with Love charity fashion sale, presented by the forum company, takes place in Johannesburg from June 1 to 3 – and organisers are hoping to raise more money for literacy than ever before.

Since its inception in 2013, Vintage with Love has raised close to R4-million for literacy, with sales of gently worn fashion in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Founders and organisers Leigh Ord and Jacquie Myburgh Chemaly are hoping that they will break all previous records this year, enabling the Vintage with Love team to donate even more money to needy literacy charities in Johannesburg and surrounds.

“As a former teacher, I believe it is so important to me that we do something to help underprivileged children achieve effective literacy,” says Leigh.
Without foundation phase literacy, learners will always struggle with further studies. The organisations that we support with the funds from Vintage with Love are extremely effective in achieving foundation phase literacy amongst hundreds of Gauteng youngsters, as well as helping would-be teachers achieve their career goals.
All money raised by Vintage with Love goes to charity and everyone working for the charity does so on a volunteer basis.
Vintage with Love is sponsored by the forum company, the go–to company for upmarket, stylish and sophisticated events, iconic venues, world class conferences and unforgettable weddings. The Vintage with Love sale will take place at their exclusive venue the forum | the campus.
The forum company Managing Director Glynis Hyslop has supported the Vintage with Love sale from its inception, saying it is an important opportunity for the exclusive events company to give back to the community.
“Utilising the beautiful setting of the triple volume space at the forum | the campus, the Vintage with Love team manage to create something quite extraordinary. This is no common or garden jumble sale, but an extremely elegant and beautifully curated pop up sale of very good quality fashion. We are delighted to be part of this event that not only improves the lives of young children, it’s also a great weekend of entertainment and shopping,” she said.

Magazine editor and Vintage with Love co-founder, Jacquie Myburgh Chemaly says it’s important to remember that the concept of vintage fashion has changed and that shoppers at Vintage with Love will find rails of gently worn modern fashion – at brilliant prices.
“Vintage fashion is not about old clothes. It’s about those items that you bought and never wore or the ones that are still in excellent condition but you no longer want. What you no longer love, will be someone else’s treasure. And that, in turn, will be an underprivileged child’s future secured,” she said.
