Oshabeni murder accused appears in court

A single shot was fired at the man, killing him, before his girlfriend was raped.

Nkosinathi Alpheus Ngcobo (31) of Tin Town in Oshabeni appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder, rape and house robbery.

The crimes were committed in Oshabeni, Mehlomnyama area, last month.

According to Port Shepstone police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge, Ngcobo will remain in police custody pending his next court appearance on July 9.

Ngcobo is accused of breaking down the door to gain access to a room where a couple was sleeping.

A single shot was fired at the man, killing him, before his girlfriend was raped.

The woman’s handbag, which contained money and a cellphone, was stolen.

Members of the Mehlomnyama Saps Detective Service, the Port Shepstone K9 Unit and the Ugu Cluster Operational Command Centre (OCC) acted on information received and arrested Ngcobo.

An unlicensed firearm and ammunition were recovered, along with cellphones.

“The firearm will be subjected to ballistic tests to determine if it has been used to commit any other crimes. The accused has also been linked to other serious crimes,” said Captain Mpinge.
