Hibberdene Happenings: Donation makes lifeguards’ lives a little easier
Ugu South Coast Tourism Hibberdene Committee generously donated a lifeguard chair, new flagpoles and new tables and chairs.
HIBBERDENE lifeguards were recently the lucky recipients of a marvellous donation of a lifeguard chair, new flagpoles and new tables and chairs for the shady area under the trees – a generous gift from the local committee of Ugu South Coast Tourism.

The donation will make a huge difference to facilities at the beach and grateful thanks are extended to the committee for its generosity.
Generous community
The Lions Club of Hibberdene did extremely well with its food collection in aid of Mandela Day, held in conjunction with the local Pick n Pay last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Donations were plentiful and all community members and holidaymakers are thanked for their generosity. The food will be donated to the chosen charities towards the end of this week.
What a spectacle!
Your scribe apologises to people still awaiting the arrival of their spectacles ordered at the June clinic – a parcel with a tracking number, which was posted in Benoni approximately ten days ago, has not arrived yet.
Excuses vary, but it all boils down to a ‘couldn’t care less’, hopeless attitude. Notifications to those waiting will be made as soon as the glasses arrive.
Cool camp
The recent lower South Coast Methodist Winter Camp was a blessing from beginning to end. Besides the 25 local teens, young people from Gauteng, Port Edward and the Eastern Cape attended, swelling the numbers to 60.
The spiritual theme was based on the story of David and Goliath and when Pastor Michael Steenkamp from Port Shepstone encouraged them to come forward and pledge themselves to become ‘Champions for Jesus’, the response was overwhelming.
It was a wonderful experience for everyone and all who donated or helped in any way are warmly thanked.
Go for breakfast
If it’s the third Saturday of the month, it’s time for Mizpah Church’s monthly men’s breakfast, which will take place at the church premises this Saturday, July 21, at 7am, at a cost of R20 per person. All men are most welcome to attend – contact Edgar Lilje at 084 5820772.
Anyone for supper?
An invitation is extended to interested persons to attend the Hare Krishna’s enlightenment session at the Hibberdene Care Centre on Saturday, June 28 at 3pm.

Catching up
It was lovely to see former residents Sue Myburgh and Fisani Chili over the weekend. Both are doing well and send good wishes to all friends and acquaintances.
Sue travelled down from her home at Umdoni Retirement Village to attend the local Methodist Church, while Fisani, now resident in Newcastle, made a hasty weekend visit to her family in the area.
Sincere condolences
Sadly, Charlene Travassos died last weekend after enduring a time of intense suffering during her illness. She will be sadly missed by many, especially her sister Bernie Mongie and her aunt Evelyn Hart, to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
Congratulations and celebrations
Birthday wishes go to Axel Axelson and Linda Kent (18th), Connie Olwage (19th), Renuka Lalsing and Rudi Kotze (22nd) and Gladys Spruew (24th), with anniversaries being celebrated by Nelson and Jessie James (18th) and Sham and Roy Jagaroo (19th). Don’t forget to keep Lizzie busy with all things Hibberdene.
