Hibberdene Happenings: John Kirk to speak about healing

Please make an effort to attend as John puts a lot of time and effort into preparing his talks.

HIBBERDENE is decidedly less busy than it has been in recent weeks, with schools having reopened and most of the holidaymakers having returned home. Pupils are wished well for the third school term – it is amazing how quickly this year is flying by.

Local man, John Kirk, well-known for his walks through town with his beloved dog Lucy, will be presenting a talk entitled ‘The Christian Healing Stream’ at the town hall on Saturday, August 4, from 3pm to approximately 4.30pm. Please make an effort to attend as John, who is a deeply religious man, puts a lot of time and effort into preparing his talks.

Sermon with supper

A reminder that all are welcome to attend the Hare Krishna’s enlightenment session to be held at the Hibberdene Care Centre this coming Saturday, July 28, at 3pm. Supper will be served and Rajin Mahabeer is the man to contact for more information at 082 8362758.

Father and son Brentin and Marius Wandrag enjoyed the fellowship at last Saturday’s Mizpah Church men’s breakfast.

Sunday braai

Mizpah Church’s chicken braai takes place this Sunday, July 29, after the morning service. Chicken is available for a small donation, or you may take your own meat and a small salad to share should you so wish. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Help Terence

Your scribe made a brief visit to Rainbow Warriors last week and was amazed at how Terence Olivier copes with the demands of feeding and caring for so many animals with limited resources. In the near future, Terence will be receiving a rather large ‘consignment’ of cats rescued from the Durban University of Technology and really needs a lot of support and assistance. Anyone who would like to make his life a little easier by assisting financially, remember that no amount is too small and every little bit helps. Deposits can be made to Nedbank account name ‘Dream Catchers’, account number 1029261105 and branch code Amanzimtoti 130627. Terence can be contacted at 073 6947934.

Thank you

The Lions Club of Hibberdene plans to distribute the groceries collected at its Mandela Day Food Collection, in conjunction with the local Pick n Pay last weekend, to the selected recipients at the beginning of next week. Goods to the value of close to R4 000 were collected, which for Hibberdene is excellent and all donors are warmly thanked. The goods will be divided between the Sacred Heart Children’s Home and Reinhardt’s Place.

Back home

Welcome home to Jeanette Swanepoel, who has returned to Mtwalume after spending five weeks in Vereeniging caring for her daughter and son-in-law, both of whom underwent operations recently. It is good to see her again.

Happy birthday

Birthday wishes this week go to Jeanette Swanepoel (25th), Anna Annandale, who turns 85 on the 26th, Petra Greyvenstein and your scribe’s grandson Steven in Newcastle (29th), and Candace Vermeulen and Tobie Bekker on the 30th.

Remember that Lizzie needs to be kept busy with Hibberdene snippets and news.
