Fire repairs start at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital
It's all systems go for repair after fire damage.
Plans to repair sections of Port Shepstone Regional Hospital which were damaged by a fire have now reached an advanced stage, following the recent signing of the project brief, decanting plan and the relevant administrative documents.

The signing of these documents effectively paves the way for the commencement of the revamping of the acute medical ward, medical outpatients’ department and eye clinic, which were burnt during a fire last year.
The fire affected the south wing of the hospital and also caused damage to expensive equipment. “This brought strain to the hospital’s ability to serve its catchment area of 775 271 people and necessitated the implementation of a contingency plan to help management deal with the situation. There was increased pressure on the hospital, mainly due to refusal by stable patients (or those with minor ailments) to be referred to neighbouring district hospitals,” said spokesman Phumza Morai.
To ensure that the renovation process goes off with minimal inconvenience to all, posters will be put up at strategic points in the hospital to inform patients and visitors about the plans.
