OPINION: ‘Sheila leaves a lasting legacy’

In Sheila I found a common understanding that was for the greater good of the community and our stories found its way into the press.

DEAR Editor,-

I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Sheila Park.

Our journey together began some decades ago when she was a journalist working at the South Coast Herald.

It was a time when there was limited access to print media on the South Coast for activists and politicians to have their say.

In Sheila I found a common understanding that was for the greater good of the community and our stories found its way into the press.

She would visit communities and see, first-hand, the issues we had raised – in a clear and objective manner.

In times of political violence she braved a visit to scenes of violence to try and deepen her understanding of the senseless killings at the time.

As always, she maintained balance in reporting objectively, ensuring that the stories that needed to be told were indeed told.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.

May God grant you the strength and courage during this difficult time.
