Marburg Secondary hosted its well attended annual speech and awards day last Wednesday.
Keynote speaker for the evening was former pupil and law graduate, Thubelihle Mpise.

Winners were as follows: Gr 8: Lungelo Kikine – highest distinction in technology and natural science and scooped third place in the grade. Natasha Sihlobo came second and secured the highest distinction in technology and mathematics. Top gr 8 pupil Zusakhe Fakude achieved the highest distinction in English, Afrikaans and social sciences.
Gr 9: For the second consecutive year, Rhea Rampersad placed first for highest distinction awards in all nine learning areas, followed by Alungile Mlolongo (second) and Sthabile Kheswa (third). Alungile and Sthabile each obtained eight distinctions.
Gr 10: Top pupil Sihle Potolwana won awards for isiZulu, accounting, life sciences and physical sciences, followed by Ntandokathixo Nduli (second) and Aaliyah Shaik and Khatija Ismail shared third.
Gr 11: Saalihah Chohan placed first and won awards for Afrikaans, accounting and life sciences, Lwandile Hlophe came second and achieved highest distinction in mathematics.
Thabo Shongwe placed third.
Gr 12: Nothile Dlamini won the Powys Family Good Fellowship Award, runner-up Akhona Hlophe claimed the Proxime Accessit Award with four subject distinctions and Siphumelele Mkhize, the Meritorious Performance Award for finishing third.
But the big winner by far was Intle Bebula, who achieved highest distinctions in English, Afrikaans, life orientation, mathematics, accounting, life sciences and physical sciences.
Intle also won the Gail Papli Memorial Award as the top mathematics and physics pupil, as well as the Dr Rahana Dwarka Memorial Trophy for top mathematics and life sciences pupil. She achieved an aggregate of over 90 percent and it was no surprise that she also won the dux award as top gr 12 pupil of 2018.
