CYNTHIA Mqwebu, mayor of Ray Nkonyeni Municiaplity, encourages golfers to support the annual Mayoral Golf Day which will be played at Margate Country Club next Friday (14th). It’s a fourball alliance format with two scores to count and is only open to golfers with official handicaps. Time to meet
The Southbroom Ratepayers’ annual general meeting is scheduled to take place at the golf clubhouse on Saturday, December 22nd, at 9am. The meeting will be followed by the property owners and community policing forum annual general meetings.
Another important AGM to note is that of the Southbroom Conservancy. It will also be held at the clubhouse and the date to save is January 5 starting at 9am.
Southbroom residents are reminded that Imbezane Drive will become a one-way over the holiday season from December 16 to January 3 from 6am to 6pm except on New Year’s Eve (31st) when it will apply for 24 hours. The speed limit throughout the village is 40 kph.
Free workshops
There are three communications presentations taking place at the Margate Library over the next three weeks.
Entitled: `What you want versus what you have in your life,’ the workshops are aimed at improving communication skills in order to improve life skills.
The first takes place today (December 5), the second on the 12th and the final presentation is on the 19th. Starting time for all three is 6pm and each session is about two and a half hours.
There is no entry fee.
Holiday happenings
The Island Tribe Beach Fest offering non-stop family fun arrives at Ramsgate’s main beach next Friday (14th) and runs until the 23rd.
And it is Mardi Gras time – every Wednesday during the holiday season Marine Drive in Margate is transformed into a carnival-styled street party. The Mardi Gras dates to diarise are 12th, 19th, 24th, 3rd and 9th from 6pm to 10pm. For more information about the street parties phone Corrie Wernick at 039 3172202.

Join the carollers
Ramsgate Lions Club will hold its annual `Carols by Candlelight’ service at the Hibiscus Mall in Margate on the 20th from 6.30pm. Everyone is urged to take along a toy for Father Christmas to distribute to needy children.

Eyles Park (next to the tennis courts in Southbroom) is the venue for the Southbroom Conservancy’s annual `Carols by Candlelight’ service on the 23rd from 5.30pm. Winston Smile will lead the carol singing and it is `rumoured’ that Santa might pop in to sing along too. The winner of the library hamper will be drawn at the carol concert so make sure you have bought your tickets for the lucky draw before then. Proceeds from the hamper tickets are used to buy more books.
Airmen celebrate
The South Coast branch of the South African Air Force Association (Saafa) will hold its annual Christmas lunch at Cafe Munro at the Margate Retirement Village this Sunday (9th).

Movie date
To ensure everyone is in a Christmassy mood the Residents’ Activities Committee (RAC) will screen that traditional favourite ‘White Christmas’ starring Bing Crosbie at its next movie afternoon. The venue is the Ronnie Baker Hall next Sunday (16th) and starting time is 2.30pm. Cost is R5 which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.
