Christopher takes Southcity’s dux award

Celebrations included a devotion, prayers, speeches by gr 7 pupils and a spectacular choir performance.

Southcity Senior Primary held its annual prize-giving last week.

Chairman of the board Harry Lourens handed out all the special awards.

Special mention must be made of gr 7 dux Christopher Naranjo, and Erin Thomson, who took the dux proxime accessit and Monitor of the Year awards.

Scarlet Scorer scooped the girls’ swimmer and netball player of the year awards and Chaz Young was the boys’ swimmer of the year.

The Margate Pharmacy trophy for student of the year was awarded to Slondiwe Ndwalane and the Good Fellowship award went to Ashlee Gundry.

Sinethemba Nyathi and Slondiwe Ndwalane shared both the girls’ cricket and hockey player of the year awards.

Devan Cawood and Jack Snell were both awarded boys’ cricket player of the year and Werner van Niewenhuizen won rugby player of the year.

Caitlin Farren and Rafe Drummond won cross-country athlete of the year and Christopher Naranjo, boys’ hockey player of the year.

Athlete of the year went to Sinethemba Nyathi (girls) and Curt Bahlmann (boys).

Soccer players of the year were won by Frida Lyth (girls) and Curt Bahlmann (boys).

The top sportswoman for 2018 was Sinethemba Nyathi the sportsman award went to Jack Snell.
