Sassa card cut-off date looms

Some good news is that beneficiaries will receive their December grant payments early.

Social grant recipients are reminded to obtain their new gold Sassa cards before the cut-off date of Saturday, December 15.

With the switch-over to the new card drawing to a close, Black Sash urges those receiving a child, disability or pension grant to visit their nearest Post Office or Sassa offices.

According to the Black Sash, beneficiaries will not be able to access their grants in January 2019 using the old white Sassa cards, which expire in December.

Sassa spokesman, Vusi Mahaye said too many people had yet to make the switch, despite various efforts to get them to register for new cards.

According to Mr Mahaye, Sassa had already completed the registration process and the number of people switching their cards had not increased as they had expected.

On the South Coast, the South African Post Office and Sassa had initiated campaigns such as visits to various community halls to encourage as many people as possible to register for the new Sassa gold card.

Some good news is that beneficiaries will receive their December grant payments early.

Sassa said payments for ATM and till point users started clearing from Wednesday last week, while those who collect from cash vans and community centres would receive their money from December 3.

Beneficiaries were also warned not give out their ID or pin numbers to anyone making ‘special offers’ or who say they are from Sassa.
