WATCH: Video of municipal worker tipping out medical waste on road raises the question ‘why?’

Municipal spokesman, Simon April said that after all facts have been established, the necessary action will be taken.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality will investigate the video footage of a municipal worker from the Community Services Department emptying a refuse bag containing medical waste on Commercial Road in Umtentweni, last week.

RNM spokesman, Simon April,  said the matter would be investigated.  This would include contacting those operating and manning the security cameras to find out exactly when this happened. Thereafter, he said,  it would be easy to find out who was working at that particular workstation when the incident occurred.

“After all facts have been established then the necessary action will be taken,” he said.

Umtentweni residents were taken by surprise on Monday last week when they noticed to a pile of medical waste which had been dumped on Commercial Road.

When Herald reporters visited the site, they found more than five plastic bags containing used nappies but most worryingly there had been a number of syringes with needle intact and cotton swabs with blood found dumped.

Law Enforcement officer Sidney Pillay arrived and has opened a case of illegal dumping.

The medical waste was soon removed Ray Nkonyeni Municipal Community Services.
