The welcoming address by SDC’s chairman, local community developer, Themba Zondi celebrated SDC’s decade of community development work and its impact on some 3600 smallholder farmers on the South Coast.
“The board has had to weather the storm along with Siyavuna staff and farmers as we adjusted to organisational and institutional growing pains, along with the recent financial challenges.”
SDC director, Sonja Pithey, expanded on this, as well as on the process of strategic evaluation undertaken to meet the challenges.
She also presented the revised vision, mission and objectives of the SDC.

Local farmer, Fika Khumalo, shared how since joining the SDC network she had continued to farm successfully on her land and was producing salad packs and beetroot wine which she sells to the community.
A special word of thanks was extended to First Rand Foundation (Wesbank Fund) and NPC, a member of Intercement, whose funding had enabled the organisation to survive the setbacks.
