He immediately alerted the Port Shepstone K9 and Pietermaritzburg K9 units which had been deployed in the area, as well as highway patrol members.

Police spokesman Sergeant Sibu Ncane said police followed a Toyota quantum in which the men were believed to be driving.

They intercepted the men on Marine Drive in St Michaels.

As police approached the vehicle, the four men jumped out of it and attempted to run away.

Police managed to arrest three of them. They also recovered stolen R10 000 cash.

The three men are currently in the cells at Margate police station.

They will appear in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court this Thursday (27th).

According to Sergeant Ncane, the complainant said he had been in Manaba when two men stopped him and a friend.

They said they were police officials from Umlazi Organised Crime and had been sent to search his house.

They produced a wallet with a Saps badge.

“They took the complainant to his house and searched it. While they were searching the house one of the men, who was carrying a firearm, threatened to shoot the complainant if he did not show them the ‘illegal stuff’.”

They continued to search and found R10 000 cash under a pillow.

They also climbed on top of the complainant, using him as a stepladder, as they searching the ceiling area.

The men could not find anything else and left the house with the cash.
