“When the diver was brought to shore we tried to resuscitate him but it was too late,” said Mr Preston.

Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said the 65-year-old man was a holidaymaker from Krugersdorp and was diving with other professional divers.

“He was brought to the surface unresponsive. Med-Evac, Police Search and Rescue and NSRI responded and attempts to revive him proved unsuccessful. The cause of death will be investigated via an inquest docket and post mortem examination.”
