Tourism CEO explores South Coast treasures

The two-day trip was the first one planned to introduce the new CEO to the destination from a visitor’s perspective.

Ugu South Coast Tourism’s new CEO, Phelisa Mangcu, recently discovered some of the South Coast’s tourism highlights on a two-day trip.

Day one kicked off with a tour of Beaver Creek Coffee Farm, followed by visits to the Red Desert, The Pont, Umtamvuna River Lodge, Dinangwe African Cuisine and coastal strip in Port Edward.

She was also treated to tours of the Munster Motor Museum, MacBanana Lifestyle Centre, Mpenjati Nature Reserve, Marina Beach, Southbroom’s Outlook Trading Post, Riverbend Crocodile Farm and S’khumba Crafts.

Then it was on to Ramsgate, where she popped in to Pistols Saloon, Bellevue Park, the Whale Deck and The Waffle House, before taking a tour through Margate and along the coastline through Shelly Beach to Port Shepstone.

On day two, the CEO explored Oribi Gorge, Lake Eland Game Reserve, The Gorge Private Game Reserve and Spa, a stop at the Mac Valley Farm Stall, and a tour of the Vulture Hide.

Lunch at the Oribi Gorge Hotel was followed by a visit to Wild5Adventures, the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve and the picnic spots Ugu South Coast Tourism recently upgraded.

Phelisa said that she liked the diversity of destinations, saying that while she acknowledged the attraction of the beaches, she was encouraged by seeing the ‘other’ side of the South Coast.

“Coming from outside the region, I never even knew about the Oribi Gorge, so there is a need to promote tourist areas beyond the beaches.”

The CEO said she now has plans to keep exploring the great treasures of the KZN South Coast with her family and looks forward to embarking on a similar trip to the Umdoni area, including Scottburgh, next year.

She wished all summer holidaymakers a great festive season, safe travelling and happy exploring all over the KZN South Coast.
