Ugu steps up to ensure hassle-free festive season

However, the municipality stressed that it still had to contend with ageing infrastructure and financial difficulties.

Apart from a few water supply interruptions, Ugu District Municipality says it has had a fairly uneventful festive season.

According to the municipality, the number of visitors to the South Coast had ‘undeniably increased’.

And while this was certainly good for tourism, the increased demand for water and sanitation services could at times prove challenging.

“Despite this, the municipality pulled out all the stops to ensure that our visitors had a hassle-free stay during this period,” said Ugu spokesman, France Zama.

This was backed by the municipality’s festive season preparedness plan, together with a joint operations committee set up to monitor and administer the implementation of the plan.

“We accelerated our response time on all recorded calls of service interruptions and kept our communications channels open with our key stakeholders. We are also very grateful for the cooperation received from residents and councillors during this period.”

However he stressed that Ugu still had to contend with ageing infrastructure, coupled with financial difficulties.

“As we look ahead, we have identified certain areas that require urgent attention and we will priorities these as we head towards the municipal budget adjustment process.”
