Hibberdene Happenings: Don’t forget to register this weekend

If in any doubt, pop along to make sure you are on the voters' roll for this year's general election.

REMEMBER the final voter registration drive this coming weekend, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th. Representatives of the Independent Electoral Commission will be at the town hall from 8am to 5pm on these two days, so if in any doubt, pop along to make sure you are on the voters’ roll for this year’s general election. Alternatively, phone 080 0118000, sms your ID number to 32810 (at R1 per sms) or visit the website, www.elections.org.za.

RIP Barry

A service for Barry Jones took place at the Methodist Church last Friday afternoon, followed by a gathering at the Mzimayi River Lodge. It was well attended and Barry will be sadly missed by many.

New faces

Fairly recent newcomers to Hibberdene are the Macmillan family, formerly of Amanzimtoti, New Zealand and Johannesburg. Father Stewart, mom Urshula and daughter Melanie are warmly welcomed. Melanie, an artist of some note, has some lovely paintings, of which she has already sold a few. Other relative newcomers to the area are Christine and Derek Gage, who have relocated from Westville. They lived in the area some years back and have now settled in Umzumbe.

Clinic update

No word has been received yet regarding the reopening of the dental and eye clinics, but as mentioned last week, you will be notified once starting dates have been announced.

Dreaded bug

A nasty tummy bug seems to be doing the rounds in Hibberdene, so do be wary. Although it only lasts a few days, the effects are very draining and the symptoms can leave one feeling quite ‘pap’.

Thoughts and prayers

Sandra Smith-Enticott has not been well lately, resulting in her spending a while in hospital last week. She and all others feeling not too well are wished an improvement in health.

Three cheers

Eleanor and Ricky Douglas of Mtwalume celebrate an amazing 57 years of marriage on January 24, while Veronica and Ian Davids have their anniversary on the 29th. Birthday greetings go to Joan Lilje (23rd), Jane Massey (24th), Lee-Ann Bransby (25th), Raymond Bransby (26th), Nancy Allan (27th), Laetitia van Tonder, Marie Torlage, Maggie Grey and Nelson James (28th) and Norma Boardman (who turns 84) and Reshma Pillay (29th).

Don’t forget to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
