‘Testing’ times for Ramsgate Lions

The emphasis is on raising awareness of diabetes.

Another successful free blood sugar testing clinic was held by the Lions Club of Ramsgate at Hibiscus Mall last Saturday.

Sister Jan McCook was on hand to counsel and advise people whose results were indicative of possible diabetes.

Lion Rob Henry said 267 people were tested – 107 men and 160 women, with 11 men and 19 women found to have readings considered ‘out of range’.

“The most rewarding part of conducting these tests is being able to help someone who may not have known they are diabetic to get medical assistance – it could save a life.

“This campaign is one of the major community service projects of the Ramsgate Lions and is also a main focus of Lions Clubs International. The emphasis is on raising awareness of diabetes. A simple blood test is all that is required to know your status.”
