Calling all aspiring poets – get your poetry published

Winners get to have their work published in a unique full-colour coffee table album.

‘Whisper from the Heart Poetry Club’ invites all aspiring poets to enter a unique poetry competition and stand a chance to win a unique, personalised full-colour coffee table album – with 20 poems published. The cost is R150 per entrant (20 poems per entrant).

Prizes:

* 1st: 20-page lay flat portrait full-colour coffee table album valued at R1 200;

* 2nd:  20-page standard portrait full-colour coffee table album valued at R900;

* 3rd: 20-page standard 20cm x 20cm full-colour coffee table album valued at R650;

* 4th:  Ten fourth prize-winners will be entered (at no additional cost) into the annual competition, with a maximum of three poems published in the annual book of verse and short stories. All fourth place winners will receive a copy of the book and there are also cash prizes to be won.

Rules:

  • The competition is subject to the club receiving 50 entries of 20 poems per entrant.
  • All entries must be sent in a Microsoft Word document using Arial font.
  • Each entrant must have a maximum of 20 poems to submit.
  • Design and illustration of books will be discussed in detail with each winner.
  • Only paid entries will be considered for prizes.
  • Prizes cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • Books will be mailed via registered mail, but can be sent via courier at the winners’ cost.
  • Lengths of poems are limited to one poem per page. Poems that don’t fit on a page will be discussed with entrant.
  • Each winner will receive a copy of the coffee table album, but additional copies can be purchased.
  • If a winner wants more poems published in the book, extra pages can be purchased at the winner’s cost
  • Competition is open to South African residents only.
  • Non-winners can also have their work published in a coffee table album, but all costs would be for their own account.

The closing date is June 30, 2019, subject to the club receiving 50 entries or more (20 poems per entrant). Poems can be in English or Afrikaans.
