New wings for Margate airport

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality is expected to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with SA Airlink

Good news for local commuters is that Ray Nkonyeni Municipality is to enter an agreement with SA Airlink to provide flights between Margate and OR Tambo International Airport.

Council gave mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu and municipal manager Max Mbili the go-ahead to negotiate with the operator.

The mayor said this approval by council is important as Margate Airport is ‘a pillar of economic development, tourism and is also a huge asset’.

“The municipality is expected to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with SA Airlink, with clear conditions of agreement.”

Details of the agreement, she said, would be released at a later stage.
