2018 was a wild year during which the PSHB team have developed a broad strategic response against PSHB.
• Chemicals have been tested and some have been submitted for emergency registration.
• Tree injection systems have been tested.
• Treatment protocols have been developed.
• Communities have been mobilised.
• And most importantly public awareness has been raised.
A PSHB community meeting in Ballito has drawn attention to the susceptibility of our indigenous trees – the mortality of PSHB infested trees within our endangered swamp forest is alarming, which raises concerns on how PSHB can be controlled outside of an urban environment.
2019 needs to be a year of action, which is why the PSHB team have scheduled training workshops around the country to fast-track the development of expertise – this course is oriented towards arborists and the public who want to learn more about treating infested trees and controlling the spread of PSHB.
