African champs await for Umtentweni mountain biker

The young rider could do with some financial assistance and a raffle is being held to raise funds.

Tayne Rudling (21) of Umtentweni has been selected to represent South Africa at the CAC African Continental Championships in XCO (cross-country) and XCC (cross-country short track).

This takes place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast from May 29 to 31 this year.

It’s a massive achievement for him and something he has worked incredibly hard towards over the years.

Tayne’s recent results include a third place finish in the U23 division at the SA Cup 2 XCO.

Tayne Rudling of Umtentweni is looking forward to the champs in the Ivory Coast.

He managed a commendable 10th place in the XCC at SA Cup 2 and then won the Cane Challenge on the North Coast last month.

Tayne spent the first few months of the year riding and training extensively in the Eastern Cape.

He is currently in Howick, training for the upcoming champs.

As with most international sporting events, the costs involved are significant, including flights, accommodation, transport, team fees and race logistics.

The family has been raising funds through sponsorships, donations and a raffle to help get him there.

He needs around R13 000 excluding flights.

Raffle tickets cost R20 and some great prizes are waiting to be won.
