Sheppie’s Sandspit gets a much-needed makeover

Umtentweni Conservancy and members of the community were out in full force last Saturday to clean-up the dirty area.

Bag upon bag of rubbish was collected from the Sandspit area last Saturday.

All thanks to the Umtentweni Conservancy and members of the community who came out and worked extremely hard in the baking sun to collect heaps of litter.

The day before, members of the conservancy held a pre-event clean up at the Sandspit to setup and ensure that the area was free of broken glass.

Saturday turned out to be a wonderful family day on the banks of the Umzumkulu River. The children enjoyed a jumping castle, kayaking, beach volleyball and much more.

“A massive thank you to all the people who came out to clean up the Sandspit on the Umzimkulu riverbank,” said Liz Willey of the Umtentweni Conservancy.

She said they collected an incredible amount of litter and truly made a difference to the image of this local beauty spot.
