Hibberdene Happenings: Town hall needs some urgent TLC
It certainly does not create a very good impression at present.
HIBBERDENE’S town hall is in dire need of some tender loving care at the moment, but who will provide it? It certainly does not create a very good impression at present, with the front glass door, which was shattered a few months ago, tied up; unprotected electricity connections in the foyer, and roof tiles that were damaged by the wind two years ago, still loose and dangerous. There is an urgent need for improvement.

Book now
The first dental clinic of the year takes place on Wednesday, February 27, but is unfortunately already fully booked. Contact Marie at 082 2935757 should you wish to book for a later date. February’s eye clinic is also fully booked, but there are still a few vacancies available for next month’s clinic on March 20, at noon. Contact your scribe to book.
Arrive early
If you are prepared to arrive early and queue take advantage of Transnet’s Phelophepa Healthcare Train, which will be in Port Shepstone this week and still be available from today, Wednesday 13th to Friday 15th from 7.30am. Tests are free at both eye and dental clinics, and although there are other small costs which may be incurred, it might be worth the effort if you are prepared to wait. Would-be patients are urged to arrive early, before 6am.

Thoughts and prayers
Deepest sympathy is extended to Margaret and Charlie Smith on the death of their son Paul (of Durban) last week. He was laid to rest at a memorial service in Durban last Saturday and condolences are extended to all family members. Also, spare a thought for Kleintjie and Chris Snyman, whose granddaughter Cheverne Duvenage was very seriously injured in the walkway collapse at Hoërskool Driehoek recently. Cheverne (13) a grade 8 pupil at the school, sustained broken vertebrae, a broken hip, a fractured foot and sever internal injuries. She is being kept under sedation in the Alberton Hospital. Please remember Kleintjie and Chris, Cheverne and her parents Elhardus and Nicola in your thoughts and prayers.
Congratulations
Mollie and Chris Hillman became grandparents fairly recently and are extremely proud of grandson Ruarck Govender. Little Ruarck, deserves to be thoroughly spoilt as he arrived a whole 16 years after his parents Kosar and Gavin’s marriage.

Perplexing phones
Your scribe was interested to read the ‘Tweni neighbourhood news regarding WiFi phones in last week’s Bonus (WiFi phones cause consternation in Tweni). She too has one, dropped off at the kitchen door and had her husband not been a telephone technician in the ‘olden days’ would still be none the wiser as to how to use it.
Get well soon
Dalaine Goliath, who has not been too well of late, was transferred from Netcare Margate Hospital to a Pietermaritzburg hospital during the week, but thankfully is now back home again. Please remember all others on the sick list and spare a thought for Steve Coulson, who, for the third time in the three months since he broke his ankle, has an infection in the foot and is back on the vacuum drain again.
Happy occasions
Betty and Eric Mack celebrate an anniversary on February 14, while birthday wishes go to Marie van Rensburg (13th), Colleen Herholdt and Carl Friedenthal (14th), Jade Balfour (15th), and Kotie Low, Lynette James, Tanya Pelser and Martin Rautenbach (18th).
Well done
All who completed the Midmar Mile on Friday and Saturday are congratulated – you should be very proud of yourselves.
