RNM pleads for patience as Depot 1 drama unfolds

Refuse bags have not been collected in some Depot 1 areas, including Umtentweni, Sea Park, Albersville, Palm View, Protea Park and parts of Port Shepstone.

Following reports of Depot 1 municipal employees refusing to work due to their unhappiness with a foreman,  Ray Nkonyeni Municipality spokesman Simon April has issued the following statement:

“I wish to indicate that there are some challenges in Depot 1 and the management is dealing with those challenges and would like to plead for patience from the residents.

Where there are serious matters that need to be attended to residents are encouraged to contact our 24-hour Emergency Number, 0396825555.

We really apologise for the inconveniences caused by these challenges however we would like to assure the residents that management is dealing with these matters as a matter of priority.”

Councillor Doug Rawlins urged residents on a Ward 18 Information WhatsApp group to please take their refuse into their properties for tonight, and put it out for collection tomorrow (Thursday).

This affects areas in Olso Beach where refuse is normally collected on Wednesdays.
