Going postal over pitiful state of mail boxes
They are rusted, filthy and literally falling apart.
South Coast residents are up in arms over the state of the post boxes in their areas. These red and blue boxes provided by the South African Post Office have been left to rot over the years with little to no maintenance carried out on them.

Not only is mail being damaged but it is being stolen too with confidential information falling into the hands of the wrong people.
Post boxes in Marburg, Merlewood, Gamalakhe, Uvongo and Margate are in desperate need of repair while those in Gamalakhe are in a terrible state.

One resident said the disgusting state of the building in Gamalakhe where the post boxes are housed could lead to bad individuals preying on the young and old when they go to fetch their post.
“We wish to reach those responsible for the post boxes to either have them removed or fixed. It is a total eyesore,” said the resident.

In Marburg, the entire back cover is missing on the post box stand and letters are being damaged. The South African Post Office has placed a notice at the site which reads, “Please collect your mail for this cluster unit at Port Shepstone Post Office window next to the post boxes, until further notice. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

No comment from the Post Office was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
