Hibberdene Happenings: It’s a diamond for Diana and Brian

Happy birthday to Mike Hoyer, who celebrates his 94th birthday this week.

YOUR scribe unfortunately received the notification too late for inclusion in last week’s Bonus when it was actually relevant, but such a momentous occasion definitely warrants a mention. Diana and Brian Simonsen were married in Zimbabwe on February 28, 1959, and have just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends.

They are belatedly wished a very happy day and many more! Residents of Pumula for the last 12 years, the Simonsens have five children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mike turns 94

And not to forget another momentous celebration – Mike Hoyer, formerly of Hibberdene and now of Mbango Valley, who blew out 94 candles on March 7! Happy birthday Mike, hope you had a wonderful day with family and friends.

Early birds

The Methodist men’s breakfast held last Saturday morning was very well attended and took the form of a social gathering instead of having an organised speaker. The men enjoyed their meal and a good time of fellowship was had by all.

Join today

More women are joining the church’s ‘Knits and Natters’ group on a Thursday at 9am. The ‘chair’ exercise class also had a good attendance last week. Contact Debbie at 039 6992948 for more information on either of these activities.

Book a table

Have you reserved a table for the Mtwalume flea and craft market to be held on Saturday, March 30, from 9am? If not, contact Sue at 039 9721425 as tables are free of charge and it is first come, first served.

The market, which is held on the grassy area adjoining the swimming pool at Koelwaters Resort, will hold you spellbound with its array of Easter and other goodies.

There will be music and plenty to eat and drink, so roll up and support the stallholders.

Draw winners

The Lions’ latest lucky draw winners have been announced and Connie Mulder finds herself in the fortunate position of having won two prizes, namely the Salon Marguerite and Jolly Roger Fun Pub vouchers. Other winners are Manu Barnard – Tiago’s; Natasha le Roux – Fifi’s Fresh Fish; Yvonne Beck – Hibberdene Pharmacy and Neil Horsman won the Christmas cake. Winners are reminded that vouchers are to be used in the month during which they are won. Thanks to all for their ongoing support and congratulations to all winners.

Books galore

Bookworms should visit the clinic where a number of new books have found their way onto the shelves. Fact or fiction, in fact, there is something for everyone, including some lovely children’s books and all are at very reasonable prices. Books are available on most Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Thanks are extended to Neil Horsman for his splendid donation.
