Illegal weapons seized by Saps in eThekwini and surrounds

The recovered firearms included 28 handguns, two homemade firearms and one shotgun.

POLICE seized 42 illegal firearms and 624 rounds of ammunition in the eThekwini area and surrounds during an intelligence-driven operation lasting some six days.

During the operation, several homesteads were raided.

The recovered firearms included 28 handguns, two homemade firearms and one shotgun.

“Forty-three suspects were arrested. They all appeared in various courts facing charges related to the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition,” said provincial Saps communications officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane.

All the recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic tests in order to establish if they have been used in the commission of crimes.
