Hibberdene Happenings: Be part of the bumper flea market

There is something for everyone at the popular flea market in Mtwalume.

OOPS, a gremlin crept into last week’s news when the winners of the Lions’ lucky draw were announced. Winner of the two prizes was certainly not Connie Mulder, but in fact Connie Kuilder, to whom apologies are extended.

Don’t delay

Good news about the regular Mtwalume craft and flea market has been received from organiser Sue Paterson. She reports that a record number of tables have been reserved for the next market and this can only bode well for the future. Starting at 9am on Saturday, March 30, an added bonus is that popular Andy Els will be providing the music. This, together with the variety of food and crafts on offer should be enough to coax everyone out of bed early to head to Koelwaters Resort where the market takes place. Contact Sue at 039 9721425 or 082 4002616 to reserve a table, which is free of charge.

Watch this space

Human Rights Day falls on Thursday, March 21, this year and a grand flea market is being planned at the Blue Waters Pub and Restaurant on that day. All normal activities at the venue will be brought forward for a day and will take place on Wednesday 20th, instead of on the Thursday. Please note the changes will be for the week of March 20/21 only and will revert to normal the next week. Full details will be available in next week’s Bonus.

Welcome visitors

Former resident Colin Schwegman and his family from Pietermaritzburg were welcome visitors at the Methodist Church service last Sunday, albeit that the occasion was rather sad.

Former resident Colin Schwegman and daughter Marion Barnard were warmly welcomed at the Methodist church last Sunday.

The family gathered in Hibberdene to scatter the ashes of Colin’s beloved wife Maureen, who sadly died a few months ago. Colin is looking well and sends much love to his many friends in the area. Also visiting the area and spending time with Phyllis Michaelis were former Mtwalume residents Christine and Ralph Hermann, who now live in Gauteng. They too send fondest greetings to their many friends.

Go for breakfast

Mizpah Church’s men’s breakfast takes place this coming Saturday, March 16, at the church. The cost is only R20 per person and men of all denominations are most welcome. The breakfast commences at 7am and men wishing to enjoy a tasty breakfast and a time of fellowship should contact Edgar Lilje at 084 5820772.

Many happy returns

Once again, two important birthdays will be celebrated this week – on Thursday, March 14, Mati Rogers, a resident of the Hibberdene River Resort, celebrates her 80th birthday. She is wished a very happy day with family and friends, and many more happy years to come.

Well-known and much-loved Hibberdene resident Thelma Naudé is wished a very happy 94th birthday for March 18.

And then, next Monday, the area’s ‘golden girl’ Thelma Naudé turns 94! She is wished a wonderfully happy day, in the company of her many friends. Thelma recently enjoyed a visit from her great-niece Anne van der Veen, and Anne’s daughter Elise, from London. The three ‘girls’ had an absolute ball during the visit and have very special memories of the time spent together.

Raise a glass

Besides Mati and Thelma, others celebrating birthdays next week are Linda van Vuuren and Nesta Lake (13th), Antoon Broodryk and Neville Olivier (14th), Leopold Oosthuizen (15th), Annemarie Swanepoel (16th), Dennyl Cole and Bubbles Bezuidenhout (17th), and Maureen Murray (19th). Happy anniversary wishes go to Nancy and Tommy Allan for March 16 and Greer and Doug Henderson (18th).

Remember to keep Lizzie busy with all Hibberdene news and snippets.
