Umdoni ratepayers urged to air grievances

RATEPAYERS within Umdoni’s Ward 10 area, more specifically Pennington, are disgruntled at the lack of service delivery and had much to say at a public report back meeting held at Relton Hall recently. The meeting, organised by ward councillor Edwin Baptie was attended by some 147 members of the local community who voiced their opinions and asked questions.

The meeting agreed that that management skills at Umdoni Municipality appeared to be lacking and that two positions – head of community services and head of corporate services – remained vacant as the current manager had been suspended.
It was also raised at the meeting that inclusions suggested in terms of priority matters for Pennington in the previous Integrated Development Plans (IDP) had once again not been included in the municipality’s budget for the 2018 and 2019 IDP.
The topic of Umzinto Licensing Department also came under discussion. It was highlighted that Umdoni Municipality was not fulfilling its obligation to motorists and that another service provider capable of doing the job was urgently required.
It was however not all doom and gloom. Funds had been allocated for Porpoise Road as well as Whale Road, both of which need urgent attention.
A further R600 000 had also been allocated for speed humps in the Pennington area and rehabilitation efforts on Salmon Drive ought to be completed by the end of the month.
Of the money allocated to speed humps, it was noted that R120 000 would be suitable to repair the two speed humps in Kingfish Road while the remaining funds would be allocated to general road repairs in the area.
Ratepayers were urged to air their grievances by emailing them to customerservices@umdoni.gov.za It was advised that if their grievances are ignored they should approach the offices of the public protector.
