Ugu District Education scoops third in national awards
This is a tremendous achievement for the district having finished second in KwaZulu-Natal for 2018.
It was a proud moment for the Department of Education, Ugu District Office when they came third in the category ‘Most Improved District (2016 – 2018) at the National Teaching Awards (NTA), held in Gauteng recently.
Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshegka hosted the awards evening whose main purpose was to recognize outstanding performances by education districts, schools and leaders in education.

One of the quality indicators used in this category was the number of Bachelor passes produced for the period 2016 to 2018.
Mr Sibiya the district director represented the Department of Education, Ugu District Office received a framed certificate in recognition of their achievement.
This is a tremendous accomplishment for the district having finished second in KwaZulu-Natal for the 2018 National Senior Certificate Examinations. “This award belongs to the teachers in the classroom who have worked tirelessly, over weekends and school holidays to ensure that our pupils are well prepared for the examinations,” said Mr Sibiya.
He expressed his gratitude to all teachers, school management teams, principals, district officials as well as school governing bodies and teacher organisations for this outstanding achievement.
Mr Sibiya challenged officials to go all out to do even better in the 2019 National Senior Certificate Examinations and for all parents and extended family members of pupils to provide a good support system to them as they prepare for their examinations.
“It takes a collective effort to ensure that every pupil develops to his or her maximum capabilities in order to access the various opportunities that government has made possible for our pupils, including the access to tertiary education,” said Mr Sibiya.
