The festival of colours was celebrated in style with dancing, prayers and of course the throwing of coloured powder at each other which was the highlight of the evening. Young and old covered themselves from head to toe in brightly coloured powders in celebration of this Hindu Holi festival. Holi, which dates back to the seventh century, traditionally takes place in March on the day of the full moon.

Pundit Ramnand Roy from the Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir and his wife Lata Ray enjoy the festivities.

Veena Lakhan the chairman of the Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir said the festival of Holi can be regarded as a celebration of the colours of unity – an opportunity to forget all differences and indulge in fun.

Nisha Luckraj Gopichand adds some coloured powder to Sathian Singh.

“It has traditionally been celebrated in high spirits without any distinction of caste, creed, colour, race, status or sex. It is one occasion when sprinkling coloured powder on each other breaks all barriers of discrimination so that everyone looks the same and universal brotherhood is reaffirmed,” explained Mrs Lakhan.
