All systems go as Ugu Jazz Festival 2019 is launched

Organisers have promised an incredible line up of performances by big-name acts.

The 2019 Ugu Jazz Festival was launched by Eyadini Events and Ugu District Municipality at St Michael’s Sands Hotel last Friday.

This year’s festival will be a two-day affair, with the Jazz Festival taking place at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on Saturday, June 29 followed by a beach picnic at St Michael’s beach on Sunday, June 30.

Organisers have promised an incredible line up of performances by big acts such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Caiphus Semenya, Judith Sephuma, Lira, Thandiswa Mazwai, Tshepo Tshola, Mafikizolo, Sjava and Mbuso Khoza.

Other artists on the programme include Naima K, Berita, Zahara, Afro Soul, Brenda Mtambo, Umkhumbane, Unathi, Malini, Lady Zamar, Shekhinah, Mlindo and Mahotella Queens.

Ugu mayor Mondli Chiliza said the jazz festival had become one of the district’s flagship events aimed at fostering social cohesion, economic growth and promoting the district as a tourist destination of choice.

“We look forward to welcoming artists and visitors from all provinces and we are certain that Eyadini Events will present a world-class musical event,” he remarked.

VIP tickets will cost R1200, Golden Circle tickets  R350, while general tickets will cost R280.
