Long-serving Ugu Cluster police officer retires

Lieutenant-Colonel Marina Thorne had tremendous experience in a number of fields including human resource management, commercial crime, crime detection and visible policing.

After serving the South African Police Services for 37 years, Lieutenant-Colonel Marina Thorne of Ugu Cluster VISPOL announced her retirement recently.

Lt-Col Thorne began her policing career in 1982 in Middelburg, Mpumalanga and moved to the South Coast in 2003. She completed several skills development courses and career-aligned workshops that equipped her for the duties she had to perform.

Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said Lt-Col Thorne had tremendous experience in a number of fields including human resource management, commercial crime, crime detection and visible policing.

“She loved her job as much as she loved outdoor activities and cycling. She took part in several SAPS road cycling competitions over the years, the most recent being in Mpumalanga last year.

“Her energetic and vibrant personality, as well as her caring nature, were felt by all who worked closely with her. SAPS wishes Lt-Col Thorne good health and happiness as she enjoys her well-deserved retirement,” said Capt Mpinge.
