Scottburgh Saps members can hold their heads up high after being awarded the MEC’s Service Excellence Awards 2017/2018 Gold Award recently.
The award for Best Colonel Station Overall in KwaZulu-Natal was presented to Scottburgh Saps station commander, Colonel Ralph Ruiters who graciously accepted the award.
The selection process consisted of an undercover survey where members of the public who had visited the station were asked on leaving to rate their experiences at the station and the level of service provided.
“We were happy to hear the outcome of this survey and find out that the members of the public were more than satisfied with our level of service provision,” said Col Ruiters.

Scottburgh Saps successfully passed all the categories and requirements for this provincial Gold Award, where they were up against 184 other KZN stations of which 36 were colonel stations.
“This award has boosted station morale and has encouraged us to accomplish more so we can enter other categories such as best charge office,” he said.
This is a great accomplishment for Colonel Ruiters and one of the highest awards Scottburgh police station has received
The last time Colonel Ruiters received awards similar to this was when he was stationed at Umzimkhulu Saps and Matatiele Saps.
“We are going to push every year to do better as a station. One of the biggest challenges we face in the area at the moment is the number of criminals coming to this region to commit crimes. We track them, trace them and arrest them. We are doing our very best to try and bring these criminals to book,” he said.
