Hibberdene Happenings: Locals knuckle down to clean up the town
Hopefully this will set a precedent for other groups as well.
AN enthusiastic group of locals did a great job of cleaning up from the entrance to Hibberdene town at Umslungwa riverside to the Mzimayi River bridge last Thursday. Coordinated by Ward 13 Councillor Noah Cele and sponsored by local businessman André Geyser, the efforts are much appreciated by the community. Hopefully this will set a precedent for other groups as well.

Done and dusted
Rabies inoculations went off successfully, with the rain holding off long enough for most pets to receive their jabs. The animals were on their best behaviour in most cases and state veterinary staff members were quick and efficient.
Please help
Welfare groups, churches and the Lions are appealing for items of ‘winter warmth’ to be used for jumble sales in the near future. Warm clothing and shoes will be most appreciated, but any clothing in good condition will be welcome. Please hand all donations in to relevant organisations.
Kind gesture
South Coast Hospice recently received a donation of bed socks and blankets, knitted in memory of the late Maureen Schwegman, from the Methodist Church’s ‘Knits and Natters’ group. This is a wonderful gesture and one which your scribe is sure will be much appreciated. Anyone wanting to join the group, which meets at 9am on a Thursday, or donate scraps of wool, is asked to contact Debbie, on any weekday morning except Monday, at 039 6992948. And, speaking of hospice, the weekly raffle at Blue Waters Pub and Grill was won by Jill Whitmore. This raffle is held at the venue every Thursday, with all proceeds going to South Coast Hospice.
Easter services
A series of services will take place at the Methodist Church during ‘Holy Week’ in the build-up to the celebration of Easter Sunday.
On Tuesday, April 16, a service will take place at 5.30pm, followed by the traditional Passover Seder meal on Wednesday, April 17, at 6pm.
On Thursday (18th), the ‘Service of Shadows’ or Tenebrae takes place at 5.30pm, and finally the Good Friday and Easter Sunday services at the usual time of 8.30am. Please note that bookings for the Passover meal are essential and flyers will be handed out shortly.
Sincere condolences
Sadly, two residents died last week, both of whom will indeed be deeply mourned. Dennis Mays, who had not been well for a few weeks, died last Wednesday and deepest sympathy goes to his wife Jean, who herself is not well, and family members. Marita Balzer died quite suddenly last Thursday and she leaves behind her husband Hein and friends and relatives.
Get well soon
Both Jenny Potgieter and Judy Hoyer have undergone surgery recently and are wished well, as is everyone else on the rather lengthy sick list.
Happy occasions
This coming Saturday (13th) will definitely be a red-letter day for two residents who celebrate special birthdays. Jean Flint turns 85 and Raymond Rasper, 84. Both are wished a wonderful day filled with blessings and happiness. Sharing the day with them is Len Marshall and others celebrating this week are Bill Enkerwitz (79 on April 10), Francis Cloete (12th), Judy Pretorius and Dorothy Viviers (14th), Nosihle Zama (15th), Bongi Mpunzana and Kotie Boshoff (16th), while belated congratulations go to Irene Krynie for April 6.
Remember to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
