Hibberdene Happenings: Clean-up efforts revitalise Hibberdene
Trees planted alongside the R102 are looking good and ornamental stones and ornaments have been painted a fresh new colour.
HIBBERDENE is looking quite neat and tidy, thanks to all the clean-up efforts which have been focused on the town recently. Grass verges adjoining the main road have mostly been cut and trimmed, the trees planted alongside the R102 are looking good and ornamental stones and ornaments have been painted a fresh new colour. Thanks to all who played a part in this commendable operation.

An influx of visitors is expected to descend over the weekend and hopefully Easter will be warm and sunny. Please be considerate to both visitors and locals, and please be cautious on the roads.
Clinic suspended
Due to circumstances beyond its control, the Lions eye clinic has had to suspend its operations in Hibberdene. This is most regrettable, but for the moment, is unavoidable. Please note that this applies to Hibberdene only and should the issue be resolved, readers will be the first to know.
Help at hand
It hurts to lose someone close to you, so find help at a GriefShare course, where caring and friendly people are available to walk alongside you. A three-month course (Tuesday to Friday mornings) will hopefully commence in mid-May and will be held once a week at the Methodist Church. If you are interested in attending, contact Debbie at 039 6992948.
Join the club
Anyone interested in brushing up on their handcraft skills should visit the clinic where a number of books on knitting, crochet, and most crafts are on sale to raise funds for the Lions Club. What better way to spend the coming winter months than by joining the Methodists’ ‘Knits and Natters’, arming yourself with a newly-acquired pattern and creating something really exquisite.
New prizes
The Lions are thrilled to welcome two new sponsors aboard for their monthly lucky draw. A warm welcome is extended to ‘Feed and Seed’ and ‘Donnée Mineral Water’, which have donated a R100 voucher and 10 litres of bottled still water respectively.

Alan wins
And, on the subject of raffles, Alan Rossouw was the winner of a handy LED light in last Thursday’s ‘Blue Waters’ lucky draw. This raffle is increasing in popularity and all money raised goes to South Coast Hospice – a most worthy cause.
Get well soon
Connie Olwage had a horrible fall last week and is nursing several nasty bruises and a broken hand. Thoughts are with her – hopefully she will recover speedily. Sad news is that Keith Scullard, fondly known as ‘South Africa’s Rodriguez’, died recently.
Also known as ‘a voice for the animals’, Keith will be remembered by many for his association with Terrence Olivier of Rainbow Warriors and their efforts to provide sterilisation and care to unwanted animals.
Three cheers
Birthday wishes this week go to Reg Thomas (18th), Bryce Lilje and Rachael Bransby (19th), Neville Lawrence (20th), Chris Laubscher, Lorette Gray and Carol Aldridge (21st), and Jakes Jacobs and Frans du Toit (23rd).
Don’t forget to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
